Midview Football Defeats Elyria Catholic 41-20 in Home Opener
Midview Varsity Football improved to 3-0 with a 41-20 victory over visting Elyria Catholic High School on Friday (September 5) evening under the lights of Adelsberg Stadium.
The Middies, who have showcased their potent rushing attack through the first two games, picked part the Panthers through the air. Senior Shay Williams completed 12-of-16 passes for 239 yards and 3 TDs. Junior Brennen Newton and senior Zachary Wallace were his primary targets, as Newton pulled in 3 catches for 85 yards and 2 TDs, while Wallace had 5 grabs for 65 yards and 1 TD. Senior Marcus McMahon added 19 carries for 79 yards and 2 TDs, while junior Jace Wright had 3 rushes for 83 yards, including a 71-yard TD. Defensively, senior Brayden Homoki had a team-best 11 tackles, while senior Braden Armold and senior Gage Weaver both added 7 stops.
Midview took 7-0 advantage when Williams connected with Newton on a 22-yard TD pass. Williams then hit Wallace for a 24-yard TD. Elyria Catholic got its first points on a 24-yard TD pass of its own. The 71-yard TD run by Wright made the halftime scored 20-7. McMahon's 1-yard TD run and a Williams to Newton 48-yard hookup extended the Middie's lead to 34-7 atfter three quarters. A running clock was then triggered when McMahon scored from 20 yards out. Elyria Catholic scored the final 13 points later in the fourth quarter, but the game was already decided.
Midview will remain home in week four and host Avon Lake High School (0-3) in its Southwestern Conference opener on Friday (September 12) at 7 p.m.
