Kat Yates wins 2024 SWC First Singles Championship

Midview High School senior Katarina Yates made program history Tuesday (September 17) evening by taking home the 2024 Southwestern Conference First Singles championship. The event took place at Avon High School.

Yates, who improved to 22-0 on the year, defeated Amherst Steele High School's Kayla Bussard 6-1, 6-2 to earn the championship. In doing so, she became the first Middie tennis player to win a SWC singles championship. Yates is now a two-time SWC Champion, having won the First Doubles bracket with her sister Gabby Yates in 2022.

Overall, Midview tied Amherst for fourth place in the SWC Tournament standings with 23 points. Avon won the tournament with 35 points.

The Middies return to team play Wednesday (September 18) when Avon's B team comes to the MHS Tennis Courts at 4:30 p.m.
