Midview Athletics Announces Dominic Mcewen as Head Boys Wrestling Coach
Midview Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Dominic Mcewen as the next Head Coach of the Midview Boys Wrestling program. The move was formally approved by the Midview Board of Education on Wednesday (June 24) evening.
For Mcewen, accepting the role of Head Boys Wrestling Coach is more than a career opportunity—it is a chance to return home and lead the program that helped shape him as a student-athlete. A 1994 Midview graduate and former Middie wrestler, Mcewen brings his coaching journey full circle as he takes the reins of the wrestling program where his passion for the sport first began.
Mcewen returns to the high school program after serving as the Head Middle School and Youth Wrestling Coach during the 2025-26 season. He brings more than 14 years of coaching experience spanning youth, middle school and high school wrestling, including previous head coaching positions at Firelands High School and Black River High School. Throughout his coaching career, he has developed wrestlers at every level while building programs focused on discipline, accountability and athlete development.
"The opportunity to become the Head Coach of Midview Boys Wrestling is both an honor and a responsibility that I will embrace wholeheartedly," Mcewen said. "Wrestling has had a tremendous impact on my life by teaching discipline, accountability, perseverance and leadership. To have the chance to lead a program and help shape young men both on and off the mat is something I take very seriously, and I would be committed to building a culture that reflects hard work, character and pride in representing the school and community."
Mcewen's coaching experience includes responsibilities ranging from practice planning and athlete development to scheduling, offseason training, fundraising, academic monitoring and family engagement. His work at the youth, middle school and varsity levels has given him a unique perspective on building a complete wrestling program from the ground up.
"Dominic's passion for wrestling and his commitment to developing young people stood out throughout the hiring process," said Midview Athletics Director Dan May. "He understands that successful programs are built on relationships, consistency and a clear vision. His experience at every level of wrestling, combined with his investment in our youth program, makes him uniquely qualified to lead Midview Wrestling into the future."
May believes Mcewen's connection to Midview provides an added level of pride and commitment to the position.
"There is something special about having a former Middie return home to lead the program he once competed for," May said. "Dominic understands the traditions of Midview Wrestling, the expectations that come with representing our school and the importance of building strong connections throughout the community. We are excited about the energy, leadership and vision he brings to this role."
One of Mcewen's first priorities will be establishing strong relationships throughout the wrestling community while creating an environment where athletes are challenged to reach their full potential.
"My immediate goals will be to establish strong relationships with the athletes, parents, coaches, administration and youth wrestling program," Mcewen said. "I want to create a positive and disciplined culture where every wrestler understands the expectations and feels invested in the program's success. I will focus on increasing participation, improving fundamentals and creating a competitive environment in the practice room."
While relationships and culture are immediate priorities, Mcewen's long-term vision focuses on sustained success and continued growth throughout the program.
"My long-term goals are to build a sustainable program from youth wrestling through high school, consistently compete for conference championships, qualify wrestlers for district and state competition and develop leaders who represent Midview with pride," he said. "Success is not measured solely by wins and losses but also by the character, work ethic and life skills our athletes carry with them after graduation."
Mcewen credits his years of coaching experience for preparing him to lead a program that values both competitive excellence and personal growth.
"My experience has taught me the importance of leadership, communication, accountability and maintaining high standards," he said. "Wrestling has provided me with firsthand knowledge of the dedication required to be successful, while my professional experiences have strengthened my ability to mentor individuals, manage challenging situations and build cohesive teams. I understand that every athlete is different and that effective coaching requires balancing discipline, encouragement and individualized development."
As he begins this new chapter, Mcewen hopes to attract new athletes while continuing to build a family atmosphere throughout the program.
"My message is simple: if you are willing to work hard, commit to the team and challenge yourself every day, there is a place for you in this program," he said. "Wrestling is one of the toughest sports in the world, but it rewards effort, discipline and resilience like no other. Whether your goal is to become a state qualifier, a varsity starter, or simply a better version of yourself, we will help you reach your potential. We will build a culture based on accountability, respect and family. Together, we will work to make Midview Wrestling something that every athlete, parent and community member can be proud of."
Mcewen will begin preparations immediately for the 2026-27 season as he works to build upon the proud tradition of Midview Wrestling and create a foundation for long-term success throughout the Middie wrestling program.
