Midview Track and Field performs well at OHSAA Division I District Championship

Midview Varsity Track and Field had a banner day two of the OHSAA Division I District Championship Friday (May 23) at Avon High School's Early Learning Center. The Middies had ten student-athletes qualify for next week's Regional Championship across eight events. Midview's Boys finished seventh overall with 48 points, while Girls took ninth with 32 points at the opening round of the postseason event.

Sophomore Cora Vance led the way by qualifying for regionals in three events. Individually, she took third (26.04) in the 200m Dash. She also anchored both the 4x100m Relay and 4x400m Relay to a regional birth with third place finishes. The 4x100m Relay, which featured freshman Hannah Bacskay, sophomore Ava Hamm, sophomore Leah McKay and Vance, crossed the line in 50.31 seconds. The 4x400m Relay, which included freshman Molly OckulyBacskay, freshman Leila Morgan and Vance, finished in a school record 4:06.30.

Senior Sigurd Hansen made the most of missing his graduation ceremony as he qualified for regionals by placing fourth in both the High Jump (5-8) and Long Jump (20-10.75). Hansen capped his day by finishing sixth in the 800m Run (2:02.29).

Senior Logan Bier was a two-event regional qualifier before making it back to walk across the stage. Bier won the 300m Hurdles with a time of 40.82 seconds after he took runner-up in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.52). In addition, classmate Nolan Roth joined Bier in qualifying for regionals in the 110m Hurdles with his fourth place finishing time of 15.92 seconds. Roth also placed sixth (42.57) in the 300m Hurdles before making it back in time to collect his diploma.

Sophomore Jeffrey Wirth earned a fourth place finish and regional qualifying spot in the Shot Put by way of his final throw of 48-7.25.

Seven other Middies earned team points with their season-ending performances. Senior Makai Massey collected a point in the Shot Put after taking eighth (47-7.25) then hustled back to walk across the stage. Junior Lukas Kowalski and sophomore Anderson Bennett finished seventh (12-0) and eighth (11-0), respectively, in the Boys Vault, while senior Mkennzie Bennett was fifth (8-6) in the Girls Pole Vault before returning to school for graduation. Junior Isabel Geyer placed seventh in the Girls Discus Throw (113-7) and Shot Put (35-4.75), and sophomore Ava Hamm finished sixth (16-4) in the Long Jump, while Bacskay also took sixth (26.36). in the 200m Dash.

The OHSAA Division I Regional will take place Wednesday (May 28) and Friday (May 30) at Port Clinton High School.
