Amherst defeats Midview Softball 11-0
Midview Varsity Softball's dream of locking up atleast a share of the 2026 Southwestern Conference title was dashed by a dominating 11-0 performance from host Amherst Steele High School on Monday (May 4) evening.
With the win, the Comets improved to 8-3 in the league, one game ahead of the Middies. Berea-Midpark High School also has a share of first place with an 9-3 record. Midview, who is done with their league schedule, will need a few upsets to regain a share of the SWC championship.
The Middies were held to just one hit, a fifth-inning single by sophomore Jillian Vandersluis, in the loss. The Comets jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first, added five more runs in the second and put the game away with a four-run fifth.
Junior Savannah Holcomb (12-4) suffered the loss after she allowed seven runs (four earned) on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts over the first two innings. Vandersluis relieved her in the third and was charged with four runs on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts over the final two-plus innings.
The Middies (16-6, 10-4 SWC) will return home on Wednesday (May 6) to celebrate the Grand Opening of its new facility prior to a non-league game against Columbia High School. The ceremony will begin at 5:15 p.m. with first pitch to follow at 5:30 p.m.
