Midview Softball rallies past North Ridgeville 5-3
Midview Varsity Softball erased a late-inning deficit to upend Southwestern Conference rival North Ridgeville High School 5-3 Thursday (April 23) on the turf at MHS.
The Rangers jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Junior Dezirae Thomas quickly got a run back with a line drive over the right field fence. The Middies tied the game with a sacrifice fly from junior Savannah Holcomb in the third. North Ridgeville regained the advantage with a RBI single in the top of the sixth. However, as they did in the first frame, the Middies responded. Freshmen Hailey Dye tied the game with a two-out single. Junior Mallory Hechko followed with a two-run single to give her squad its first lead of the day. The Middies then shut the door on the win by retiring the first three Rangers of the final inning. Senior Olivia Keenan made a huge impact by throwing out a runner as she attempted to steal third after a leadoff double.
Holcomb (8-3) earned the victory after scattering three runs on nine hits and striking out two. Thomas and Dye both finished with a pair of Midview's eight hits in the win.
The Middies (12-5, 7-3 SWC) turn their attention to the annual Prebis Memorial Classic, which takes place April 24-25 at Victory Park. Midview will open against St. Ursula Academy Friday at 7 p.m.
