Amherst spoils opener of Midview Softball's new facility with 6-0 win

After a series of rained-out attempts, Midview Varsity Softball finally opened its newly-renovated, fully-turfed field against Southwestern Conference foe Amherst Steele High School on Thursday (April 16) evening. The Comets spoiled the day wiith a 6-0 victory.

Fittingly, teams dodged rain drops during warm-ups before the skies finally cleared and the fans were treated to an exciting game between rivals.

Junior Dezirae Thomas cracked a leadoff double in the bottom of the first to secure the first hit on the new field. Midview, however, managed just one more hit, a double by sophomore Jillian Vandersluis in the fourth, the rest of the way.

Amherst meanwhile, broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the top of the fifth. It added another solo home run in the top of the sixth before errupting for four runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Junior Savannah Holcomb (5-2) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts.

The Middies (6-4, 4-2 SWC) will host Brookside High School for Senior Day on Saturday (April 18) at Noon.
