Midview Softball tops Elyria 15-2

Midview Varsity Softball errupted for 16 hits en route to a 15-2 Southwestern Conference victory over host Elyria High School on Monday (April 13) evening.

The Middies opened the game with a triple from junior Dezirae Thomas. Junior Savannah Holcomb quickly drove her in with a groundout. The Pioneers answered with a leadoff triple of their own and tied the game at 1 after the first frame. From there, it was all Midview as it plated seven runs in the second. Sophomore Jillian Vandersluis drove in senior Olivia Keenan with a single. Freshmen Hailey Dye followed with a RBI single, as did junior Mallory Hechko. Two outs later, senior Nina Ballachino got into the action with a RBI single, and then junior Savannah Presser plated two with a double. Keenan capped off the inning with a RBI single.

After Elyria plated a run in the third, Midview responded with a Dye RBI single in the fourth and then scored six runs in the fifth. Holcomb had a RBI single and a second run scored on an error, while Vandersluis and sophomore Brooke Cleary both contributed two-run singles.

Vandersluis and Dye were both 3-for-4, while Thomas, Hechko and Cleary added two hits each.

Holcomb (5-1) scattered two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three over five innings.

The Middies (6-3, 3-1 SWC) will once again hopefully open their newly-renovated turf field when Olmsted Falls High School visits on Wednesday (April 15) at 4:45 p.m.
