Midview Softball blanks Avon 7-0
Midview Varsity Softball knew that the best way to respond to another tough one-run loss the day before was to take care of business at Southwestern Conference rival Avon High School on Thursday (April 9). The Middies did just that with a 7-0 shutout of the Eagles.
Junior Savannah Holcomb dominated Avon on the mound with seven shut-out innings and at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. Holcomb allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out nine while improving to 4-1 on the season.
The Middies wasted little time setting the tone, as Holcomb laced a one-out triple in the top of the first and then scored on single by junior Savannah Presser. Junior Dezirae Thomas extended the lead to 3-0 with a triple of her own in the fourth. Freshman Hailey Dye, who matched Holcomb with three of the team's 11 hits, and sophomore Brooke Cleary raced home on the hit. Holcomb followed with a RBI double to plate Thomas and make it 4-0. Holcomb's third hit of the day, a single, drove in Thomas, who reach base on a double in the sixth. Senior Olivia Keenan got in on the action with a RBI double in the seventh. Sophomore Arrianna Presser ran for Keenan and came around to score on an errror to cap the scoring and put a final stamp on the 7-0 win.
Midview (4-3, 2-1 SWC) wraps up its season-opening eight-game road trip with a game against Wellington High School on Saturday (April 11) at Victory Park Field 1. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. The Middies will then hopefully christen their new home field against Elyria High School on April 13.
