Varsity Softball Walks Off North Ridgeville in 10 Innings
Sophomore Dezirae Thomas drilled a one-out, RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the 10th inning to propel Midview Varsity Softball to a 7-6 upset of visiting first place North Ridgeville High School on Wednesday (April 23) evening.
Senior Briana Farkas got things started with a double to center field. She then advanced to third on a passed ball to set the stage for the game-winning play. The Middies trailed 6-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth when they rallied to tie the game. Sophomore Mallory Hechko delivered a two-run double. Freshman Olivia Price drove in the third run with a bunt before junior Olivia Keenan tied the game with a two-out single.
Thomas (3-for-5), junior Nina Ballachino (3-for-4) and Farkas (2-for-4) led the 11-hit Midview attack. Farkas had a huge defensive play when she threw out a Ranger runner trying to score from second base in the top of the ninth to keep the game tied.
Sophomore Savannah Holcomb (4-7) earned the win after scattering six runs on 13 hits with 8 strikeouts over 10 innings.
The Middies (4-7, 3-6 SWC), continue SWC play at Avon Thursday (April 24) at 4:45 p.m.
