North Ridgeville edges Midview Boys Soccer 4-3

Midview Varsity Boys Soccer put a scare into 2024 OHSAA Division II State Semifinalist and rival North Ridgeville High School Wednesday (Septemebr 10) night, but the Rangers escaped Adelsberg Stadium with a 4-3 Southwestern Conference victory.

The scoring started quickly. A long ball from senior Anthony Loera found sophomore Andrew Morris streaking down the right side of the field. Morris tracked it down and sent a cross into the box. The cross deflected off the keeper's out-stretched hands right to senior Kaiden Vonya, who drilled it into the back of the net for the 1-0 Midview advantage less than five minutes into the game.

A Middie turnover deep in the Ranger zone led to the visitors tying the game at 1. North Ridgeville quickly passed the ball up the field until a player caught Midview's goalkeeper in an awkward position and chipped the ball over his head from 30-yards out for the goal with 23:24 to play in the half.

Another rebound off the Ranger keeper led to the Middie's second goal, as sophomore Arnuphap Promso was in the right place at the right time and scored to give his squad a 2-1 lead with 38:22 to play in the game.

North Ridgeville fought back to level the match again with a goal in the 52nd minute. The Rangers then earned their first lead one minute later with their third goal of the game.

A Ranger foul in the box, however, led to a successful Vonya penalty kick, and the game was once again tied 3-3 with just under 27 minutes remaining.

Midview had a chance to take the lead for a third time, but a pair of diving saves by the North Ridgeville keeper kept it tied with 8:40 to play. That key play allowed the Rangers to later score the game-winner in transition with 3:02 left on the clock. The Middies had a few more chances down the stretch but could not convert the equalizer.

Midview (1-5-1, 0-2-1 SWC) visits Benedictine High School for non-conference action on Saturday (September 13) at 3 p.m.
