Midview Football drops SWC Opener to Avon Lake
Midview Varsity Football suffered its first loss of the season when visiting Avon Lake High School defeated the Middies 39-7 in Southwestern Conference action Friday (September 12) under the Adelsberg Stadium Lights.
Midview jumped out to a 7-0 advantage on the first play from scrimmage when junior Brennen Newton took a handoff and then connected with senior Zachary Wallace for an 80-yard touchdown pass. Senior Kaiden Vonya drilled the extra point. The Shoremen captured the momentum when they blocked a Middie punt later in the quarter and returned it for a game-tying touchdown. It was all Avon Lake from there as they rolled to the lop-sided victory.
Senior Shay Williams connected on 16-of-31 passes and threw for 182 yards. He also ran 13 times for 39 yards. Wallace caught a team-high 6 passes for 158 yards and the score, while Newton had 7 grabs for 83 yards to go along with his TD pass.
The Middies (3-1, 0-1 SWC) look to rebound at Berea-Midpark High School on Friday (September 19) at 7 p.m.
