Yates Sisters Win Midview's First SWC Championship
Midview High School senior Gabby Yates and sophomore Katrina Yates made program history on Tuesday (September 20) by taking home the 2022 Southwestern Conference title in First Doubles. It is the first time a Midview student-athlete ever won a SWC Tennis Championship.
The sisters, who were seeded-first in the 8-team tournament at Avon Lake High School, advanced to the finals after defeating #8 Elyria then #4 Amherst Steele on Saturday (September 17). The Midview duo, who normally plays singles but comes together in tournaments, faced #3 Avon in the championship and defeated the Eagles 7-5, 6-3.
First Doubles was the only draw that overall team champion Avon didn't win this season. Midview finished fifth as a team at the event by accumulating 19 points.
Midview's Second Doubles tandem of Amanda Pshock and Rachel Whary also advanced to the final day of the SWC Championship and earned third place with a victory over Amherst.
