Vance's record-setting day highlights Midview Track and Field's performance at Margaretta Invitational
Junior sprinter Cora Vance broke the school's 40-year old record in the 400m Dash to highlight Midview Varsity Track and Field's performance Friday (May 1) at the Margaretta High School Invitational, where the girls took fourth (64.5 points) and the boys placed tenth (36 points) at the 13-school event.
Vance finished the 400m Dash with a meet record time of 58.17 seconds. The time also surpassed that of Shelly Haun, who has held the Middie record since 1986. Vance added to her historic day by also winning the 100m Dash (12.87) and 200m Dash (26.27) to earn 30 of the team's points.
Senior Isabel Geyer accounted for 20 points of her own by winning both the Shot Put (35-02.5) and the Discus Throw (106-05). Junior Ava Hamm also scored in two events as she tied for third in the Long Jump (14-06.00) and placed sixth in the High Jump (4-04.00). Junior Maya Nimer contributed five points to the team scoring by taking fourth in the Pole Vault (8-00.00). Sophomore Emma Schriver earned a point with an eighth place finish in the 100m Hurdles (18.46).
While the girl's focus primariily on individual events Friday, the boys turned their main attention to the relays. The Boys 4x200m Relay, which featured senior Kaiden Vonya, senior Gage Weaver, senior Seth Gendics and junior Logan Edgell, took third with a time of 1:34.16. Sophomore Nathan Sooy, Weaver, Gendics and Egdell then took seventh in the 4x100m Relay after crossing the line in 45.75 seconds. Edgell, sophomore Joseph Jamison, freshmen Joseph Snyder and Vonya cappped the meet by taking fifth in the 4x400m Relay (3:41.34).
Gendics secured points in his third event with an eighth-place finish in the 100m Dash (23.64). Junior Jeffrey Wirth won the Shot Put with a mark of 53-06.00 and placed third in the Discus Throw with a toss of 155-07. Junior Blake Butts also scored in both the Shot Put (7th 41-01.50) and Discus Throw (6th / 141-02). Junior Anderson Bennett contributed two points to the team after placing seventh in the Pole Vault (10-06.00).
Midview is back in action on Monday (May 4) when it visits North Ridgeville High School to continue a meet that was suspended by rain at MHS on April 15.
