Midview Finishes Runner-up at OHSAA Spirit Championship for Second Straight Year
Midview High School Game Day Cheerleaders put their national-qualifying routine to the test against the Ohio High School Athletic Association's best in Division II Sunday (December 10) on the campus of Wittenberg University. The Middies rose to the challenge and finished as the OHSAA Division II Spirt State Championship runner-up. [Results]
Midview, under the direction of Head Coach Katie Evin, advanced to the finals after posting the third-best score among the 14 schools that competed in Division II. The Middies complied 194.55 points, including 57.65 in the Fight Song portion, 87.85 in the Crowd Leading and 49.05 in the Band Chant as determined by a panel of 3 judges.
The top six schools—Midview, Lake High School, Little Miami High School, Loveland High School, Teays Valley High School and Watkins Memorial High School—advanced to a final round. Scores did not carry over from the qualifying performance and a three-person judging panel averaged their scores in two categories. The Fight Song and Band Chant were combined into one score sheet then added with the Crowd Leading to determine the 2023 State Champion.
Midview, who finished runner-up at the event a year ago and third at the event in 2021, posted the best Crow Leading average with a 49.17 and the third-best Fight Song / Band Chant with a 46.90 for a combined score of 96.07. Like last year, Teays Valley edged out the Middies with a total score of 96.93 after posting a 48.27 score in Fight Song / Band Chant and 48.67 in Crowd Leading. It was the third straight OHSAA Division II Championship for Teays Valley. Loveland finished third with a score of 93.50.
The Middies are back in action January 7 when they compete at OAC Championship hosted by Marysville High School.
