Albert Stacey, Jr. joins his brother, Anthony and his uncle, Allen as members of the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame.

Albert Stacey, Jr., lettered four years in baseball, three years in football and three years in basketball. He averaged 13 points per game and led the team in assists from his guard position in basketball for coach Dick Bickel’s second place conference team his senior year. Albert was also a standout punter, wide receiver and defensive back on the football team.

Al found his greatest accomplishments in baseball where he was named to three All-Conference and one All-District team. He was Midview’s all time season batting leader with an average of .498 his senior year. A season in which he struck out only two times and was named to the Lorain County All-Star Team. His Midview teams won two conference championships including a district final. Al received a scholarship to Cleveland State University where he was a two-year starter. He was All-Conference and was the team’s Most Valuable Player. He was named a pre-season All-American prior to his sophomore year. His batting average his freshman year was .295 followed by .364 his sophomore year. Al had eight home runs, batted in 26 runs and handled his last 184 fielding chances from his first base position without an error and was named one of Cleveland State’s most outstanding athletes, his sophomore year. His coach said that he couldn’t remember anyone in his nine-year career who was a better clutch hitter then Albert Stacey, Jr. Al also played in the Central Illinois Collegiate summer league and tied a league record with three home runs in a single game.

Al Stacey was drafted in the 25th round by the Chicago Cubs and played two years for their minor league teams, batting 289 and 315 respectively.

Albert lives in Elyria with his two daughters. He is also the head baseball coach for Clearview High School.
