Mark Lucki was a tenacious competitor, both on the wrestling mats, and in football for Midview in the late 1960’s until his graduation in 1970.

On the gridiron, Lucki played a gritty, hard-nosed style at both guard and linebacker. He was a two-way starter in his junior and senior seasons. During his junior year, Mark was given the honor of Most Valuable Lineman. But he didn’t rest on his laurels. He enhanced his game, and reputation, his senior year, when as the Middies captain, he made All Lakeland Conference on both sides of the football! But while excelling at opening holes and protecting the quarterback, Lucki may have been better defensively. Displaying a nose for the football, and a love for contact, Mark racked up 124 primary tackles, and assisted on 44 others.

But if his work in football was outstanding, his achievements in wrestling for three years were historic. Mark wrestled for the first time as a sophomore, at 154 pounds. He was 12-5, but a glimpse of the future came at the Bay Village Invitational, where he placed second. He finished second in the Lakeland Conference tournament, and placed in the top four in both the sectional and district wrestling tournaments. Mark racked up an impressive 16-4-1 mark, his junior year, including the Lakeland Conference championship, and placed in the top four for the second year in a row in both the sectional and district tournaments.

Mark busted out his senior year. He compiled a 29-2 record, taking first place in the 155 pounds category in the Lakeland Conference, Bay Invitational, and Pioneer Invitational tournaments. He won the sectional title, finished second in the district, and third in the state. He later won at 155 pounds in the East-West All-Star match. Mark’s setbacks in the tournaments in his both his junior and senior campaigns came at the hands of the eventual state champion at 155 pounds. When finished, Mark’s career mark stood at 57-11-1 and he set the standard by which future Midview wrestlers would be measured.
