Bio

Some Midview athletes left an indelible mark at the high school.  Others also experienced success following graduation.  Ron Hobar falls in both categories, and for that, is honored with his induction into the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame.

Hobar was a three-year letterman in baseball for the Middies.  A stalwart both on the mound and at the plate, Hobar rewarded head baseball coach Jim Bollenbacher with outstanding seasons, which culminated in a senior campaign which was one for the record books.  In the spring of 1978, Hobar fashioned a .440 batting average, which included seven doubles, three triples, 20 RBI’ s and 22 runs scored.  On the mound, Ron compiled a 5-2 mark, with a 1.75 ERA, while fanning 59 in 52 innings of work.  Midview would finish that season as Lakeland Conference co-champions.  In postseason play, Hobar racked up three straight tournament wins on the hill, before the Middies lost a 2-0 heartbreaker to Bay in the district final.  Following that tremendous season, Ron was the recipient of numerous awards, including All-Ohio status, and being named to the prestigious North-South All Star Game in Columbus.

Hobar’s excellence in baseball was not over.  He continued to play collegiately at Cedarville, where he lettered for four years.  By the time he was done at Cedarville, Ron finished 7th in career batting average (.355) and second in career triples with 11.  Hobar would then play semi-pro ball in Texas for four years and later in Florida for another four years.  His passion for baseball included umpiring, starting in high school in youth leagues to calling high school and college ball games until he stepped away in 2007.

Hobar has coached or instructed baseball for over 25 years including stops in 26 countries.  Ron has been heavily involved in both Athletes in Action and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  As part of FCA, Hobar served as the National Youth Baseball Director from 2003-2011.

Ron Hobar continues to pursue his passion for baseball, providing camp instruction for individuals and groups as players, as well as team training and coach training.
