Brenda Hobar Gerber was the forerunner for female athletes at Midview High School according to her former Coach, Linda Motznik. Linda’s comments were echoed by 2001 MAHOF Inductee Jane Rader Thomasson. Jane credits Brenda for being a role model and inspiration for her own athletic pursuits.

A volleyball, softball and track star, Brenda was outstanding in softball in high school and college. In addition to her stellar high school career, she made a real impact on Cedarville College’s softball team where she was a two time MVP and the batting champ her junior and senior seasons. She led her team in home runs and runs batted in her junior year.

Brenda was a gymnast at Midview as well as an exceptional volleyball player. She was named her team’s best spiker. Her track achievements were numerous. As a sophomore, she won the District High Jump. She was sixth in the state high jump and was a member of the fifth place state mile relay team her junior year. She topped off her senior year as a member of the 6th place, state mile relay team and she placed ninth in the state 440 in the open run.

Brenda’s college career at Cedarville was memorable. In addition to her softball awards, she was a four-year letter winner in volleyball. She was named defensive player of the year, hitter of the year and MVP her sophomore, junior and senior years. She was named Cedarville’s athlete of the year her junior and senior years and, was inducted into the Cedarville College’s hall of fame in 1997.

Brenda’s work ethic, leadership and dedication combined with natural ability and family support bolstered by a strong spiritual commitment, all attributed to her outstanding achievements.

Brenda is a former Midview coach and is currently an assistant freshman coach at Amherst.
