The DiFranco family legacy is solidly entrenched in the annals of Midview High School’s athletic history. Troy DiFranco, the eldest of five siblings, paved the way as a two sport standout, lettering three years in basketball and baseball.

In basketball, he was a point guard averaging 11 points per game his senior year and was named honorable mention in the highly competitive Erie Shore conference. He and teammate Creg Jantz were picked for a high school all star team that traveled and played in Europe under an international sports exchange program. They were also the nucleus of an undersized Midview team that played to its potential under Coach Ray Verba.

In baseball, the hard hitting shortstop batted .373 with an on base percentage of 561 his senior year. He struck out only 5 times in 56 times at bat. He was awarded the team’s offensive award and was a second team All Erie Shore Conference selection.

Troy selected Heidelberg College to further his education and display his athletic skills. As in high school, he participated in basketball and baseball. He has the distinction of earning four varsity letters in each sport in college which puts him in an elite category among Midview athletes.

In basketball, he averaged 16.1 points per game his junior year from his point guard position. He scored 25 points as Heidelberg defeated Baldwin Wallace 76-69 in an Ohio Conference game played in Berea. Troy scored 931 points, averaging 10.8 points per game in his college career. He was a two time honorable mention OAC selection and was the team captain his senior year. He was selected to the Allegheny Classic All Tournament Team.

Troy captained the Heidelberg baseball team his senior year batting .288 with 45 RBI’s in his four year career. He led his team with a .365 batting average his junior year.

Troy DiFranco was All Academic Ohio Athletic Conference in basketball and baseball. He was the recipient of the prestigious Clyde Lamb Award which honors the outstanding student athlete in each college within the OAC.

Troy DiFranco has been the head basketball coach at Midview High School for the past twelve years. He and his wife, Michelle live in Grafton Township with their daughters Erin, Lauren, and son Evan.
